Lafayette
Lafayette, Louisiana Consisting of approximately 112,000 people (within the city, 203,000 in the parish), Lafayette is located in south central Louisiana and serves as an economic center in Louisiana. The region's legendary joie de vivre and Cajun and Creole cultures are known around the globe, creating a unique environment for work and play. A recent issue of Southern Business and Development magazine has named Lafayette as a Top 10 place in the South for the "creative class" - citing Lafayette's risk-taking spirit and technological advantages. Lafayette is situated in the heart of a unique cultural region known as Acadiana. The name is derived from the hard-working and fun-loving Acadians, who were exiled from their homeland of Nova Scotia in the late 1700s. Lafayette is well known for its unique joie de vie, or love of life. When the latest work project is finished and the door closes on another week, the place to be during spring and fall is "Downtown Alive!" This giant street dance is only one of the many activities that showcase the quality of life, enhances the atmosphere of Lafayette and epitomizes the friendly and outgoing nature of the area.
